JCC MACCABI GAMES

HAVE QUESTIONS?

What are the JCC Maccabi Games?

JCC Maccabi Games® started in 1982 with a big mission. It was designed in order to: provide Jewish youth with a supportive environment that fosters mutual respect and sportsmanship, where they can interact in an atmosphere of fun, democracy, and peace; cultivate a deeper understanding and instill an appreciation of Jewish values within Jewish youth, enrich their Jewish identity in an informal setting, and encourage their identification with the state of Israel; promote and encourage the health, physical fitness and well-being of Jewish youth through participation in recreational and athletic activities; and introduce Jewish youth to the international Maccabi Movement, which presents athletic, cultural, and social opportunities with Jews from around the world.Team Dallas regularly brings one of the largest delegations to the JCC Maccabi Games.

When and where are the JCC Maccabi Games?

The 2025 JCC Maccabi Games and Access will be held in Tucson, AZ from July 27 – August 1, 2025. The Games will also be held in Pittsburgh, PA from August 3 – 8, 2025.

What are the requirements to tryout for Team Dallas in the 2024 JCC Ma

Athletes must be between the ages of 13 and 17 during the week of the games they are attending.

Tucson: 13 as of 7/27 and must still be 17 as of 8/1
Pittsburgh: 13 as of 8/3 and must still be 17 as of 8/8

Do I need to be Jewish to participate in the JCC Maccabi Experience?

Yes. All JCC Maccabi athletes must have at least one Jewish parent and identify as Jewish.

When and where are tryouts?

Tryouts for the JCC Maccabi Games will take place in January and February 2025. Starting in December, we’ll share weekly tryout details via email and social media. Reminders will also be sent the week before each tryout, and the full schedule will be available on the Team Dallas webpage.

Can’t make it to tryouts but still interested? Reach out to our Delegation Heads, Liela and Josh, at Lmajedi@jccdallas.org and Jgoldstein@jccdallas.org.

How long are the tryouts?

Tryouts vary by sport between 1 hour and 2 hours. Each sport will be slightly different and the Delegation Head and coaches will provide more specific details at the tryout.

Can I try out for more than one sport?

Yes, we encourage teens to try out for as many sports as they wish.

Can I play more than one sport?

No, athletes are only permitted to participate in one sport per year.

Will there be practices and rehearsals?

Yes, each coach will determine their own practice schedule based on the team’s availability.

Am I guaranteed a spot on Team Dallas?

Unfortunately, not. JCC Association gives each delegation an allotment of athletes they can bring to the JCC Maccabi Games and Access.

Who are the Team Dallas coaches?

Team Dallas has a proud tradition of exceptional JCC Maccabi coaches. These dedicated volunteers come from our community and bring years of experience from the JCC Maccabi Games and local youth sports programs. They generously give their time to create an unforgettable Jewish summer experience for our local teens.

Do I need to be a member of Aaron Family JCC to participate?

Any Jewish teen aged 13–17 living in the DFW metroplex is eligible to participate. Teens who are not JCC members and are offered a spot on a team will need to pay an additional $212 ZTX membership fee upon acceptance. This fee grants JCC membership from the time of payment through August 31, 2025.

What if I am not a JCC member?

If you are not a JCC Member and your child makes Team Dallas for the 2024 JCC Maccabi Games your teen will need to join the JCC as a ZTX Member. ZTX members are teen members of the JCC from the moment they pay their membership fee through August 31, 2024. The cost of this membership is $193.00

Is there a cost involved in participating?

Tryouts are free, but if a spot is offered and accepted, the total cost is $2,375 for participation in both sets of games. This fee covers registration, uniforms, meals, flights, transportation, security, and more.

The payment schedule includes a $575 deposit due within 48 hours of accepting the spot, followed by three payments of $600 each in April, May, and June.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes, financial aid is available and will be awarded based on need. You can apply for financial assistance during the tryout process ahead of team selections.

How and when will I know if my teen made Team Dallas?

In early to mid-March the Delegation Heads will call parents with information about which team their child made and will send a follow-up email. Parents and teens will have 48 hours to make their deposit to secure their spot on Team Dallas. If you do not immediately hear from the Delegation Head that does not mean your teen was cut from Team Dallas, there will be over 200 phone calls made to those who tried out. You will receive a phone call informing you if your teen did not make Team Dallas for the 2025 JCC Maccabi Games as well. Instructions will be sent out to continue the registration and to set up payments.

What do I need to do to confirm my teen's spot on Team Dallas?

After receiving a phone call and email about the team your teen made for the 2025 JCC Maccabi Games, you will have 48 hours to log in to your JCC account to place a $500 deposit or pay the entire fee in full to confirm the spot. Without the deposit, your teen’s spot is not confirmed, and we will move on to the next athlete on our list for Team Dallas.

* How do I register my teen for the JCC Maccabi Games?

After paying your teen’s deposit, you will receive a confirmation email including a link to the Regpack registration system. You will need to go the link to register your teen for the 2024 JCC Maccabi Games. You will need the following information to complete the registration.Current Headshot Photograph
Teen’s Proof of Age (Passport, Birth Certificate, or Driver’s License)
Health Insurance Card and Information
Updated Immunization Records
Current Physical Signed By Pediatrician (JCCA Form must be used)
Everything except for the current physical and updated immunization record will be due by Friday, April 12. The current physical and updated immunization record will be due by Friday, June 14. Anyone who misses these deadlines will be subject to a late fee penalty.

What if I attend summer camp or have other summer obligations?

We understand many participants may attend summer camps, family vacations, or have summer jobs that conflict with part of the summer. Participants must attend the full JCC Maccabi experience in Tucson or Pittsburgh. Teens are strongly encouraged to attend as many practices, meetings, and social events as possible throughout the summer. Coaches will work with families to schedule events when most players can attend.

How do I find out my teen's sizes for Team Dallas Gear?

In late March or early April, we will have one week of gear try-ons at the Dallas JCC. For those living north of the JCC, we will also try to schedule an afternoon in Plano. Additionally, we will visit local schools to offer try-ons during lunch periods. This will be your teen’s only opportunity to try on gear for the correct sizing. If you miss the try-ons, we will use the sizes listed in the Regpack registration system when ordering gear for your teen.

When do practices start?

In the spring, we will have our delegation meeting, followed by team breakout sessions to meet with coaches and review expectations for the spring and summer, as well as team schedules. After this meeting, team practices will begin. Some sports will start practice right away, while others will wait until later in the summer. Practice frequency varies depending on each sport and the teens' availability.

What is access?

Access is a JCC Maccabi Games Experience for Jewish Athletes (ages 12-22) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Access athletes, with one-to-one support, participate in the JCC Maccabi Games, including both unified and specialized activities. The program offers an inclusive and meaningful way for Access athletes to join thousands of their Jewish peers from around the world in experiencing the magic of JCC Maccabi.
